Stain guide: How to keep organic fabrics looking like new despite mud and other stains.

Let's be honest: A child who comes out of the garden clean hasn't really played. But while we rejoice in the adventure, we dread the stains on the new organic cotton shirt or boiled wool trousers.
Organic fabrics are wonderfully gentle on the skin, but often untreated and therefore a bit more demanding to care for than chemically sealed synthetic fibers. Don't worry! With these natural tricks, you can completely remove the classics like mud, berries, and grass without ruining the fibers.
The golden rule first: speed is everything!
The fresher the stain, the easier it is to remove. Avoid harsh bleach on organic fabrics. Instead, use biodegradable gall soap or citric acid .
1. The Mud Master (Earth & Clay)
Mud is the final boss after every visit to the playground.
- Step 1: Stay calm and let it dry . If you try to rub in wet mud, you'll only push the pigments deeper into the tissue.
- Step 2: Carefully brush off the dried mud with a soft brush (e.g., an old toothbrush).
- Step 3: Rub the remaining stain with lukewarm water and a little castile soap or gall soap.
- Step 4: After 15 minutes of soaking time, put it in the washing machine as usual.
2. The Green Miracle (Grass Patches)
Grass stains contain chlorophyll, which adheres stubbornly to natural fibers.
- Step 1: Do not wet the stain with water! This will set the color.
- Step 2: Drizzle the stain with some lemon juice or (for light-colored fabrics) light vinegar.
- Step 3: Gently massage in and leave on for about 30 minutes.
- Step 4: Rinse the area with cold water and then wash the garment as hot as the care label allows.
3. The berry bomb (strawberries, blueberries & co.)
Summertime is berry time – and stain time. An old housewife's trick can help here, working wonders especially on organic cotton.
- Step 1: Boiling water! Place the affected item (if it's made of cotton) in a sink and carefully pour boiling water directly through the stain. You'll see the color literally wash away.
- Step 2: For delicate fabrics such as wool/silk: Soak the stain with mineral water (with plenty of carbonation) and gently dab it off.
- Step 3: If shadows remain, the sun will help. Place the damp garment in direct midday sun – it acts like a natural bleach.
